New payment portal and model for overdue fines and lost books

26 October 2020

On November 12, the Gothenburg University Library will launch a new payment portal. At the same time a new payment model for replacement fees and overdue fines is introduced. The new model is based on clear rules with fixed replacement fees.

Pay your delayed loans at home

On November 12, the Gothenburg University Library will launch a new payment portal that makes it possible to pay fines for overdue books directly on the web. In My loans, you can renew loans, pay fines and replacement costs for lost items. In My loans, you can also update your contact information to get messages from the library when it is time to return your loans. Overdue fines and replacement costs can be paid both on My Loans or at one of our libraries.

New payment model

Unfortunately, many borrowed books at the University library are never returned. Replacing the books is an expensive and time consuming process. To be able to offer available books to all borrowers, a new payment model is therefore introduced for overdue fines and lost books. The new model is based on clear rules with fixed replacement fees.

Fixed replacement fees

In the new payment model, a replacement fee is added to the loaner’s account after a 14-days delay. This fixed cost is SEK 600 per delayed title. It is the same cost for all types of books and materials. The amount is deleted from the account as soon as the title is returned.

Overdue fines

The overdue fine for textbooks is still SEK 10 per day and textbook. For all other material a fine of SEK 100 per title is added when the book has been overdue for 14 days. If you return the book, the replacement fee will automatically disappear. You will still have to pay the overdue fine. The borrower is suspended from new loans at University of Gothenburg Library with fines of SEK 70. Once the fines are paid, the borrower can borrow again as usual.

All costs can be paid by card via My loans. It’s also, as before, possible to pay at the library.
