Libraries are open – visit us only if you must and don’t have any symptoms
2020-10-29 stricter recommendations were announced by the Public Health Agency of Sweden, applying to Region Västra Götaland.
Anyone residing in Region Västra Götaland is urged to:
- Avoid indoor environments, such as libraries
- Avoid participating in meetings
- Avoid physical contact with others than those with whom you live, if possible
These guidelines apply from 29 October until 19 November 2020 but might be extended. It is the individual’s responsibility to make sure to follow the guidelines as far as possible. Because of guidelines we urge all students to the following:
Visit us only if you must – show consideration
Visit the library only if you must, for example to pick up or return books. Use our self service machines when borrowing and returning your loans. You can also return items at the outdoor book drops.
If you can study from home, do so. If you must come to the library, it’s important for everyone's safety that you show consideration and follow the directions in the library premises. For example, it is not allowed to move furniture around. Keep a distance from others.

Search and borrow
You can access all our e-resources from home. You can search for and reserve books and other material as well as borrow e-books online.
Lectures on study support
A short lunch lecture series, called Studentsnabben is available in Zoom. The lectures provide tips on how to search for information and manage references, how to write academic texts, study techniques and tips in Word. The seminars are usually given in Swedish.
Help via forms, telephone and Zoom
If you need help, you can contact the libraries by submitting a question via a form online or by calling us. Some libraries also have drop-in information desks in zoom.
Libraries continue to be open
There is no advice on closing libraries. Previous recommendation of a maximum of 50 people still does not apply to libraries. We will not close the libraries as it is an important service for you to be able to complete your studies. We will also not reduce the opening hours because we believe that there is then a risk of increased congestion. But to reduce the spread of infection, we all need to help.
Automatic renewal of loans continues
On Monday, November 2, the library planned to remove the automatic renewals that were introduced at the beginning of the pandemic. With the Public Health Agency's new advice, we will keep the automatic renewals for the time being. Automatic renewals mean that the library automatically renews the loan period with one loan period at a time provided that no one else has requested the material. You will receive a message from the library when you need to return the book.
